Walk into Chris and Kristi's new store in downtown Boise for a treat for the senses unmatched virtually anywhere.  The store has an open beam design, plenty of space to roam around, eye-catching display cases, seating at the window so that you can simultaneously enjoy your handmade artisan chocolates and the view outside, while making passersby envious.

About The Chocolat Bar 
Chris and Kristi Preston once had very different lives and careers; but then Kristi discovered her hidden talent for chocolatiering.  She went on to further her skills at the Culinary Institute of America and Chris fell in love with chocolate as she created it. So together they launched The Chocolat Bar and last month relocated to just around the corner to a new and larger store. Now Chris takes Kristi's ideas and transforms them into the beautiful creations the shop sells.

Awe Inspiring Chocolates
Truffles, barks, clusters, caramels, and turtles are specialties of Chris and Kristi's.  They also carry a line of sauces, gift packages, rich hot chocolates, and other fun surprises.  They buy local and organic ingredients whenever they can.

The UPM team got the opportunity to taste test a number of the shop's signature pieces, and oh my, we're spellbound.  Biting into the Lemon Drop Truffle was like finding oneself in a huge fluffy bed, surrounded by the scent of fresh lemons.  The Lemon Lavender Almond Bark (the lavender bought locally) is the best white chocolate we've ever had.  The chocolate is not super sweet like most white versions and the lemon flavor caresses your tongue while the lavender plays on your taste buds like music.  All of the caramels literally do melt in your mouth.  They do not attach to top of it like too many other caramels do.  They are the perfect pitch of flavor and texture.  All we can say is that Kristi is brilliant with developing perfect harmony with complex flavors and combinations.

If you like a bit of spice in your life, try the Red or Green Chili Pistachio Bark and/or the Aztec Truffle with red chili and cinnamon rolled in rich dark cocoa and topped with gold dust.  The bark definitely has bite, but the chili is quickly offset by the rich, luxurious chocolate and salty pistachios.  The truffle, on the other hand, surprises you with a subtle build up of spice interspersed with the cinnamon, the fluffy inner chocolate ganache, and the cocoa powder exterior.  It is exquisite.

If you are looking to impress and amaze your friends, we highly recommend you throw a chocolate tasting party with The Chocolat Bar's chocolates.  You can place a large platter of the shop's recommended combination in the center of a table and have your friends taste test a piece from each, beginning from the white versions up to the dark and spicy ones.  We promise you that you will be a hit and your friends will end up in chocolate nirvana.
